Storage cabinet expansion

Storage for the 700MX and the 700LX can be expanded by adding additional storage cabinets.

EMC Symmetrix VMAX 20K storage cabinets for 700MX

If the number of RAID packs in a 700MX is expanded, more EMC Symmetrix VMAX 20K storage cabinets

might be required. Each storage cabinet can hold 240 drives, 120 from each engine in a pair. The DAEs are

preconfigured.

EMC Symmetrix VMAX 10K storage cabinets for 700LX

If the number of RAID packs in a 700LX is expanded, an additional storage expansion cabinet might be

required. Each storage engine cabinet can hold 150 drives. Due to back-end bus structures, storage growth

beyond 120 drives requires a storage expansion cabinet.

Disk array enclosure (DAE) packs (700LX)

If there are not enough drive slots to support additional storage, slots can be added based on the EMC

minimums for the EMC Symmetrix VMAX 10K. DAEs are added in multiples of four.

Adding engines

For the 700MX, there are two engines in the base configuration with growth up to eight engines. You can

increment engines two engines at a time.

For the 700LX, there is one engine in the base configuration with growth up to four engines. You can

increment engines one engine at a time.
