VCE Vblock™ Systems Series 700 Architecture Overview

One VCE cabinet that contains EMC Avamar and another VCE cabinet that

contains EMC Data Domain 890

This solution is best used when the EMC sizing tool determines that an EMC Avamar with EMC Data Domain

890 deployment is the most effective solution. This solution provides a single instance backup deployment that

is highly scalable.

The first VCE cabinet is identical to the VCE data protection cabinet that contains EMC Avamar only, with the

addition of inter-cabinet connections for connection of VCE cabinets containing EMC Data Domain 890

systems.

The second cabinet contains one EMC Data Domain 890 Head Unit, up to 12 EMC ES30 expansion (storage)

shelves with 2 TB drives, and 2U space for a future head unit upgrade.

Note:

If backing up multiple Vblock systems to one VCE Vblock Data Protection cabinet that contains EMC

Avamar and EMC Data Domain, each Vblock system must be connected to a group of dedicated

uplink ports from the data protection cabinet.

The following illustration shows the rear view of the minimum configuration for the combination of the VCE

data protection cabinet with EMC Avamar and the VCE cabinet with EMC Data Domain 890:
